Ugly face with a massive tumor made her always chased away and ridiculed while silently suffer
We received a desperate call for help regarding a poor dog who had a massive tumor growing on the side of her face. She was wandering the streets in this condition, dying of hunger and completely without help. She is an elderly dog, and it appeared that she had been suffering for a very long time.
Because of her disfigured face, people treated her like a monster. They shunned her, threw stones at her frail body, and chased her away everywhere she went. We decided to name her Ruth. She is in safe hands now; we brought her to the hospital.
“We have to sedate Ruth in order to examine her properly, since she is incredibly scared,” the vet explained.
The mass is a tumor consuming the left side of her face, jaw, and eye. Ruth also has a distended abdomen, and her spleen has a nodule.
“It could rupture at any moment and needs to be removed immediately,” the medical team noted.
Ruth won her first battle; she began waking up from the spleen removal surgery. The next day, Ruth began undergoing imaging tests and consultations with specialists. She has now had both a CT scan and a biopsy.
“We are awaiting the results to determine if she needs chemotherapy or if we must proceed directly into surgery for the massive tumor,” the team stated.
Ruth remains very scared and timid around humans. Perhaps she suffered for so long from human abuse that she has forgotten the goodness in people.
“The results showed that the tumor is not attached to the bone, only soft tissue,” the specialist confirmed. “However, since it is cancerous, we must remove as much as possible, perform a left-sided complete mandibulectomy, and enucleate the tumor-affected eye. It is a risky and dangerous surgery, but there is no other option.”
For the second time, Ruth won the battle. They successfully removed the massive tumor.
“The first few days will be very difficult for Ruth,” the caregivers said. “She will be receiving painkillers and sedatives continuously. She needs physiotherapy to help her tongue return to its regular movements. Ruth will also be feeding through a tube until she can learn to feed herself again.”
It is truly a miracle. Despite everything she has been through and the agony she has suffered, she is still standing tall and fighting. Four days after a very complex surgery, Ruth has already started to retract her tongue on her own. She learned to feed herself again, drinks water on her own, and is going to the bathroom independently. She is much more active than before.
“She is still feeding through the tube, and we are going to start physical therapy to speed up her recovery,” the staff mentioned. “Our Ruth is on a roll; she has no plans on slowing down with her healing process.”
Ruth has come so far and endured so much. She deserves a second chance and a loving home to spend the rest of her years. Thank you to everyone who has donated to help Ruth and to those who have followed her journey. She is only receiving her second chance at life because of you. You have given her the greatest gift.
