Today, if a girl becomes pregnant before she is eighteen years old, it is considered an exception. In the past, the pregnancy of a fourteen-year-old teenage girl was not unheard of. In most cases, early birth had serious consequences not only for the baby but for the mother as well, especially given the level of medicine back then. Therefore, it is very important that such a joyful event as pregnancy occurs at the right time; otherwise, the good news can quickly turn into a tragedy.

Every woman carrying a child worries about whether the baby will be born healthy. Fortunately, nowadays, doctors can do the impossible. Most of the problems that arise during pregnancy and childbirth can be avoided thanks to modern medicine. Even premature babies with severe complications are saved, and in most cases, they grow up beautiful and healthy.
Often, a couple deciding to have one child can end up having triplets or even more. This is always a real surprise for the parents, but for medical professionals, such cases are quite common. However, the birth of a child who has another child—or even two—developing inside of them will certainly shock anyone, including doctors.
Five years ago, a little girl was born in Hong Kong who turned out to be pregnant. The doctors discovered this during an examination shortly after she was born. The girl had been suspected of having a tumor even before coming into the world. Therefore, as soon as she was born, an ultrasound examination was performed.
It turned out that inside her, there were two babies! The doctors were completely shocked. What happened to her could not exactly be called a traditional pregnancy, as a newborn girl is obviously not capable of carrying a child. The medical staff detected the embryos nestled between her liver and kidneys.
Only about eighty cases of a child born with another fetus inside are known to science. This condition is extremely rare, occurring approximately once in half a million births. But finding two embryos inside a newborn happened for the very first time.
The medical team explained this bizarre situation as follows:
“It seems that the newborn girl was originally part of a set of triplets that should have been born together.”
The American gynecologist, Dr. Ioan Berci, who studied these rare cases of children born with fetuses inside them, came to his own conclusion:
“This could be a special instance of a unique, extremely rare phenomenon known as vanishing twin syndrome.”
Quite often, it happens that one of the twins is absorbed by the other during pregnancy, and the mother does not even suspect she had been carrying twins. In such cases, one embryo disappears completely, and its brother or sister is born absolutely healthy. Of course, this newborn girl could not safely continue to grow and develop with two embryos inside of her.
Therefore, at the age of three weeks, she had to undergo a very difficult operation. The surgeons successfully removed the embryos. One weighed nine grams, and the other weighed fourteen-and-a-half grams. This size typically corresponds to eight to ten weeks of gestation. The doctors even managed to determine that the embryos were boys; essentially, the girl would have had two brothers if the mother’s pregnancy had progressed normally for all three.
The sphere of pathology is incredibly complex. Medical experts cannot explain exactly what causes such deviations during pregnancy, but the main thing is that the operation was completely successful and the little girl is now absolutely healthy. Due to the advanced level of medicine and the remarkable skill of doctors today, even the most strange and difficult cases can have a happy ending.
In fact, this is just the beginning for her, because the girl’s life has just started and many happy moments await her. The birth of a child is certainly a miracle, but we shouldn’t forget that the magicians who help deliver these miracles live right next to us, wearing their bright white coats.
