Remember those unusual triplets dismissed by their biological parents? See What Happened to Them

Anxiety and worry are common during pregnancy. Emotionally, pregnancy can be a real rollercoaster as you prepare for one of the biggest changes you will ever have in your life. Many parents worry that their child might have a condition that will restrict their life or that they, as parents, might not be able to handle the babies. In the worst cases, the pregnancy itself can pose a life-threatening risk to the mother and children. If you consider conjoined twins, that is one of the riskiest and most complicated pregnancies one can have.

An example is the case of sisters Macy, Mackenzie, and Madeline. Their story is one of the most famous cases in the world. When the beautiful girls were born, their mother hadn’t just had triplets. Two of the babies were conjoined twins, so they were connected to each other. This in itself is a rare condition and affects only one in every 200,000 births.

Unfortunately, their biological mother decided she wouldn’t take care of her three little girls, Mackenzie, Macy, and Madeline. Luckily, Darla and Jeff Garrison, from the US state of Iowa, decided to take care of them temporarily, recognizing the urgency the girls had in finding a home full of love. The couple already had three biological sons and were ecstatic with the new addition to their already large family.

The conjoined twins, Macy and Mackenzie, went through a lot of pain and just weeks after birth, surgeons began the difficult process of operations to separate them. Mackenzie returned home after six weeks and Macy followed a month later.

Darla and Jeff then began the adoption process. “We fell in love with them. Our boys were so happy to have three sisters,” Darla told Closer Magazine.

Both Macy and Mackenzie recovered well, as you can see from the photographs, each has only one leg, having been born sharing a third and useless leg. Two years after the surgery, all the paperwork was filled out and Darla and Jeff finally adopted the three girls officially.

Today, they all go to the same school, where they have several friends and love sports and art in particular. The sisters even won a horse on which they performed physical therapy regularly to help them walk with their prosthetic legs on their own. What lucky girls to find this wonderful family full of love. And they still have three brothers rooting for them as well.

The girls live a healthy and happy life. They also had all the help that made them feel comfortable and safe. Today, they have grown up and are three beautiful girls.

“We didn’t know what to expect, but they just needed someone to love them. We received Madeline when she was just four days old and Macy and Mackenzie came to us after four weeks,” adoptive mother Darla told Closer.

The girls, born in December 2002 and weighing less than 1 kg each, went through a lot after their miraculous surgery. The girls are 23 years old now and the girls are full of enthusiasm, life, and are living their lives happily with parents and siblings who love them very much.

“We are very independent. We don’t need help. We can manage to do basically everything that normal people can. I don’t look at myself like, sort of, I can’t do that because I have one leg. It’s simply not who we are as people,” Macy said, speaking to Truly.

The world needs more people like Jeff, Darla, and these three youngsters.
