Daughter Suddenly Dies, Mom Finds Secret Letter In Her Room And Is Shocked By Its Content

It’s not uncommon for a teenager to write a letter to their future selves. Some do it on their own, and others are required to do so as a school assignment. That was something that Taylor Smith from Johnson City, Tennessee did. Her letter was a typical letter telling her future self to go to college, to travel outside the country, and to keep God in her life. She even mentioned a television show that she hoped she would still be watching when she turned 22 years old.

On the outside of the envelope, Taylor wrote that it should not be opened until April 12, 2023, unless said otherwise. Sadly, though, Taylor did not live long enough to open that letter. Just a few months after writing it, she died from complications of a sudden onset of pneumonia. When her daughter suddenly dies, her mom finds that secret letter in her room and she is shocked by its content.

When Tim and Mary Ellen Smith lost their daughter Taylor, it completely destroyed their world. Losing a child is the worst thing any parent can go through. It took a while before Taylor’s parents were emotionally ready to go into her room and begin sorting through her things. For a while, just going into Taylor’s room was much too hard for her family. Finally, when her family was ready to go into the room, they found the letter from Taylor to herself.

Her mother said that she knows that she couldn’t physically resurrect her and she couldn’t bring her back, but she was grateful to get this letter. She said that it was almost like a message from beyond.

She was so moved by her daughter’s letter that she posted it on Facebook for everyone to read. This is what the letter said:

“Dear Taylor, how’s life? Pretty simple right now, 10 years in your past. I know I’m late for you, but as I’m writing, this is early. So, congratulations on graduating high school! If you didn’t, go back and keep trying; get that degree. Are we in college? If not, I understand; we do have pretty good reasoning after all. Don’t forget it’s Alana’s 11th birthday today. Sheesh, 11 already? In my time, she turned one. I didn’t get to go to that party, though, because I was in Cranks, Kentucky for my first mission trip. I’ve only been back for six days.”

“Speaking of, how’s your relationship with God? Have you prayed, worshiped, read the Bible, or gone to serve the Lord recently? If not, get up and do so now. I don’t care what point in our life we’re in right now, do it. He was mocked, beaten, tortured, and crucified for you, a sinless man who never did you or any other person any wrong. Have you gone on any mission trips? Have you been out of the country lately? How about on a plane?”

“Is Doctor Who still on the air? If not, what regeneration did they end with? You should go watch some Doctor Who later, though. You need to finish reading your words of wisdom. Do you have your own place yet? If we are in college, what are we majoring in right now? I want to be a lawyer. Have you been to Dollywood recently? Right now, their newest attraction is the Wild Eagle, and it is so fun. Also, I think I’m gonna sell my iPad and buy an iPad mini. Don’t forget to tell your kids that we’re older than the tablet. Attached, I have a drawing of an iPad so you can show them.”

“Well, I think that’s all, but remember, it’s been 10 years since I wrote this. Stuff has happened, good and bad; that’s just how life works, and you have to go with it. Sincerely, Taylor Smith.”

When Taylor’s mother shared her letter on Facebook, it inspired many people. In the first few days, it was shared over 179,000 times. 799 people commented on the post. Taylor’s family understands that nothing will bring their daughter back, but knowing what she had hoped for the future made them feel closer to her. Her father was happy that she had such a great relationship with the Lord.

It was that part of the letter that made him sure that his daughter was in the kingdom of heaven. According to her mother, there were certain parts of the letter that broke her heart, like her desire to go to college and become a lawyer. Taylor’s life was cut way too short, and she was never able to recognize any of her dreams.v
