Kai Trump shares emotional update on mother Vanessa’s breast cancer treatment
Kai Trump has opened up about the emotional moments she has shared with her mother, Vanessa Trump, as the 48-year-old continues treatment for breast cancer.
During an interview excerpt released by Fox News on August 18, Kai revealed that she and her mother sometimes found themselves overcome with emotion while spending time together.
“We would just be driving, and then we’d just start crying together,” the 19-year-old said.

Kai, who is preparing to join the University of Miami women’s golf program, has reduced the amount of time she spends on the golf course so that she can be with her mother for a few more hours.
Kai described the additional time with Vanessa as a “blessing in disguise” and said her mother is improving as she prepares to begin her own new chapter at college.
Kai says her mother is a fighter
The August interview followed several previous updates from Kai about Vanessa’s condition and treatment.

During a July 16 appearance on Fox & Friends, Ainsley Earhardt asked Kai how her mother was doing following her breast cancer diagnosis.
“Yeah, I mean, she’s doing better,” Kai responded. “Obviously, radiation takes a toll on your body. But she’s doing better, feeling better. A little tired. She’s a fighter.”
Kai expressed confidence in her mother’s strength as she continued undergoing treatment.
“If anyone can go through it, she can definitely,” she said. “She’s a fighter. She’ll be fine.”
The previous evening, Kai attended the 2026 ESPY Awards at Lincoln Center in New York. Speaking to the New York Post on the red carpet, she offered another positive update.

“My mom’s doing good,” Kai said. “She’s doing better.”
While Kai has acknowledged the physical demands of radiation, her public updates have consistently emphasized Vanessa’s strength and improving condition.
Vanessa revealed her diagnosis in May
Vanessa announced her breast cancer diagnosis to her Instagram followers in May.
“While this isn’t the news anyone expects, I’m working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan,” she wrote.
She said she was remaining hopeful and focused with support from her children, family and others close to her.
“I am staying focused and hopeful while surrounded by the love and support of my family, my kids, and those closest to me,” Vanessa added.
In June, she provided another update after undergoing surgery. Vanessa said she had spent four weeks recovering and was grateful that her healing was progressing.
“Soon, I’ll be starting the second stage of my treatment,” she wrote before sending “love, strength, and hope” to others facing similar health battles.
A close bond during a difficult period
Vanessa was married to Donald Trump Jr. from 2005 until their divorce in 2018. They share five children, including Kai, who is the eldest.
As Vanessa continues treatment, Kai is preparing to leave for the University of Miami and begin competing in its women’s golf program.
The approaching transition has made their recent time together particularly meaningful, with Kai choosing to step away from some of her golf activities to remain close to her mother.
Their quiet drives have given them space to process Vanessa’s illness together, even when that has meant sharing tears.
For Kai, those emotional moments have also provided something valuable during a challenging period: more time beside her mother before college begins.
